![]() ![]() Here, we outline a mixed-methods approach to postmortem game design analysis that helps us understand what might account for the improvement across games, and to identify new variables for future experimental training game studies. Although the experimental manipulations did not find a significant impact of the manipulated game features on the learning outcomes, each game iteration proved more successful than its predecessors at training players. The games were developed iteratively and were evaluated through a series of experiments. six cognitive biases (three per game) in their decision making. This article analyzes two games that have been developed to train an adult audience to recognize and avoid relying on. However, although specific game features have been conjectured to have an impact on learning outcomes, little empirical research exists on the impact of iterative design on learning outcomes. ![]() That games can be used to teach specific content has been demonstrated numerous times. Both showed promising results, and especially the formal study yielded valuable insights into how user characteristics can influence the perceived usability of such visualization systems and their performance. Of the two novel methods introduced here, one - an optimized, vertical arrangement of map layers - was formally evaluated in a con- trolled user study, and the other - a geometric projection approach to create panoramic focus+context views - informally through feedback from domain experts who tested it. For this, two distinct software prototypes were developed to implement the concepts of multiple coordinated views and focus+context, specifically taking full advantage of the affordances granted by modern virtual reality hardware, while also being suitable for augmented reality. This thesis examines how immersive environments can be utilized to effectively aid in visualizing this multilayered data simultaneously at various scales. Geospatial urban data encompasses a plethora of thematic layers, and spans geometric scales reaching from individual architectural elements to inter-regional transportation networks. ![]()
